October 2019 in photographs

red and yellow autumn leaves“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

The colours speak for themselves.

Autumn.

Of travels to Canada and north west New York State. Of nippy mornings, a new coat and leaves. Of old friends and new, spicy apple drinks, apple picking, Quebecois, bad coffee and leaves. Of turkey lunches, thanksgiving, long walks, misty lakes and leaves.

Of country walks, city scapes, neighbourhood parties in Buffalo and leaves. Of dramatic waterfalls, misty boat rides, hot air balloons in Letchworth Park and …  leaves. Lots and lots of leaves.

Oh, and pumpkins. Lots of pumpkins.

P.s. All the photos have captions, just in case you wonder what they are all about and where we were.
P.p.s. Photo left: Hubby and Nyama sitting on a (big) chair, K.I.S.S.I.N.G. It’s been rather a long while since Hubby and I had a proper holiday break together so a bit of silliness was bound to occur – encouraged by our good friend G who took the photo.
P.p.p.s. Bad coffee? YES! Tim Hortons is not coffee. Instant coffee in a styrofoam cup from an old babushka in a greasy spoon diner in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Quebec village is not coffee. Apart from the coffee we had in our friends’ homes, we stuck with tea. Safer.
P.p.p.p.s. Quebecois is what they call the French spoken in Quebec. We had a hard time understanding them and making ourselves understood.
P.p.p.p.p.s. One of my favourite autumn quotes comes from the screenplay / film, You’ve got Mail (1998) written and directed by the late Nora Ephron. The character of Joe Fox played by Tom Hanks, writes in his email to his unknown correspondent (Kathleen Kelly played by Meg Ryan): “Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.” I love this quote, but I always steer clear of quoting it in case anyone gets it into their tiny little brains that I might in any way miss teaching – WHICH I DON’T. #chiponshoulder
